90Taki Udon returns to discuss all the happenings in his world. Thoughts on the Retroid Pocket 3, AYN Loki, Odin, and Anbernic Win600 & RG505 handhelds, the scammy TRDR 2, Steam Deck, and a new Android mystery handheld to rule them all! This is not an episode to miss.
Notable things Taki mentioned (credit Eggyhead):
-Many elements of the orange model don’t have a matching shade of orange. Including between the front vs rear panel. Apparently, this wasn’t originally intended and producing this shade of orange isn’t easy.
-The factory (factories) producing the plastics for these handhelds have severe disregard for the environment. Excess plastics are burned, not recycled, and water runoff goes right into farming irrigation. Taki is apparently working on some kind of project to show more of this.
-Retroid has never shipped on the day they said they would for any of their devices. Taki still does some stuff to help AYN, but has given up on Retroid.
-AYN and Retroid aren’t part of the same company. They just happened to use a generic device identifier code that apparently happened to be used by AYN, which is why it is marked as an Odin controller in emulators.
-The groups designing and building these retro handhelds don’t reliably know what fans want/expect. Many of us grow up around computers and just assume the best configurations are obvious, but the situation isn’t always the same in China. Unfortunately, some companies still don’t bother to collect feedback in order to improve their products.
-The RP3 has the most vita-like d-pad on a retro handheld. There’s a little bit of “give” after the click that feels really good and vita-like.
-”Funtastic” colors are difficult to produce and even more wasteful. Taki doesn’t think they’re likely.
-Taki is working on a new venture that we should see in the next month or so.
