Tanya in Mortal Kombat 2?! - Gaming Mysteries
6,260I thought I was done with Mortal Kombat 2 mysteries after the last video I made about them regarding Shawn Attacks, but I was wrong! A commenter caused me to attempt to look up an old interview with Ed Boon. Although I could not find the interview, I was able to find a post in an old Usenet Newsgroup that revealed some rarely discussed secrets hidden in the game's code.
This post, dating all the way back to 1994, has some funny moment such as people not being convinced that Noob Saibot was a real character. It also reveals lines about Kano, Sonya, Ermac, Ed Boon, John Tobias, and most interestingly, Tanya.
Although many theorized the other characters were read herrings, Tanya was particularly mysterious at the time because her name had nothing to do with anything that was known about by the game's fans. The character Tanya would later debut in Mortal Kombat 4, but her presence in the code might indicate that the character was being worked on as far back as Mortal Kombat 2. It might also lend some credibility to the theory that Kano, Sonya and Ermac were at some point supposed to be playable in Mortal Kombat 2.
