[TAS] The Crypt in 0:12.20 - Kid Chameleon
25This is the fastest known way to beat the Crypt when starting from the level's default spawn point. It is thanks to a new and insanely simple glitch found where Skycutter is COMPLETELY invulnerable if flipped upside-down and being pushed up by a platform. He will be immune to both crush deaths and damage... that is, until you attempt to move off the platform, where the game will then kill you or give you damage unless one of these things happens:
• The invulnerability diamond power is active (yes, this will even avoid a death!).
• You phased through a ceiling AND took damage. In this case, you will only take damage when getting off the platform, and no death. That's what happened in this TAS.
• You are also pushed a significant distance the same frame you get off the platform. This can happen if you touch an incline or interact with another platform.
This new level route for the Crypt is very much RTA-viable. And as long as you have an invulnerability diamond power available, it's easy to experiment with this glitch on other platforms in real time. Here are some other miscellaneous observations:
• The glitch will not happen if the platform is moving up at a speed less than 1 pixel per frame, or the platform is moving downwards.
• Be careful! In addition to terrain, this glitch can also cause Skycutter to phase through the top margin of the level!! This will underflow your Y position and crash the game. The only way out of that predicament would be to reset the game.
