Tchia is a unique storybased game that involves a whole lot of love for New Caledonia culture and folk tales. This story revolves around a girl's attempt to free her father from a pretty nasty evil spirit.

Tchia comes out on PS4, Ps5 and Epic games story on the 21st of March 2023. It takes aproximately 10 to 15 hours to complete and has a large array of different mini games and mechanics to get used to.

Video Script:
I've been waiting for Tchia to come out for a while now, and after playing the preview build over christmas, I would easily have listed it as potentially one of the top indie game releases of the year. So where does it sit now that i've had a chance to have a spin with the launch version, which releases on the 21st of March. well let's it's trending pretty well. Game comes out on ps4,5 and epic games store for those who just came for that info.

Tchia is a coming of age adventure story based on new caledonian folk lore and culture. Indeed the music, and some of the language is based on the local Drehu language, and it's clear to see this is a love letter from the developers to new caledonia. Tchia is a young girls who is seeminly living in tropical bliss before her father is kidnapped by what can only be descriped as one dirty old hilicopter. After quickly being told to, go work it out be youself, Tchia marches straight into the business like empire of Meavora, and learns that the undesputed bad guy of the game, is this evil ruler that's eating kids. That shouldn't be good for business, but it seems that meavora has a pretty tight control of the islands.

Tchia is at it's core a search and find game in which you progress the storyline along through by completing little mini quest. Get some krabs from over her, find a dead chicken. Yeh that's one of the actual quests. And whilst complexity of quests leave a little to desire, the game has a rediculous amount of content and mechanics. You can climb, pretty much everything, as well as jump off any surface and glide as far as your stamina goes. There are mini games everywhere. little races, stacking rock challenges and some spectacular scenes involving music and rhythm games. And perhaps best of all, you get the soul jump ability, which lets you take over animals and objects in order to complete objectives or get access to their movement. Now funnily enough, it's actually quicker to take over a rock and fling yourself than it is to run, so be expecting some weird looking footage for sure!

As tchia explores the islands, and the game gets a little wackier than I was expecting, relationships are formed, new mechanics are introduced and the game continually gives you some interesting lore that makes you want to keep playing. Things like, yeh why does that evil Meavora eat babies!

But all if this is sounding pretty positive, and despite loving my play through it's clear that are some areas that will turn some people off. At times it does feel like your just walking between cutscenes and that the quests are there to just expand the time it takes to play through the storyline. The game also sits very clearly on the easy side, with little challenge. Which is interesting, as I feel like the preview was harder, and now there are more icons telling you where to go.

These are small issues though, and you should be able to tell from trailers and a small amount of gameplay if Tchia is right for you. There's a lot of story and dialogue, alongside fun little games. There's also a clear lack of action and tension as you would expect from a game that looks to build strength through the relationships and friendships that are formed. But what can't be missed, is that Tchia is completely unique. I've seen nothing like it, and i'd happily put it forward as a piece of art with both it's story telling and music being outstanding. I'd love to know what you think!
