Tears of the Sun is released
29The film sees Bruce Willis lead a Navy Seals team into Nigeria which is the throes of a (fictional) civil war to rescue a doctor played by Monica Belluci.
Willis then goes off-mission to rescue the refugees she was working with despite facing overwhelming odds…
Tears of the Sun had something of a troubled shoot:
Bruce Willis reportedly had a major falling out with the Director Antoine Fuqua. To the extent that they, allegedly, vowed never to work together again.
During a FX explosion debris was sent flying and hit Bruce Willis the head and had to receive medical treatment, he sued the FX company over it and settled in 2005
And then worst of all a stuntman drowned while filming a parachute scene, a gust of wind blew him out to sea and rescue boats couldn’t make it to him in time.
Marking Bruce Willis’s return to action film, Tears of the Sun, was a critical and commercial failure to the extent that it was repeatedly described at the time as a “Dud”
