The Tech 21 Boost Comp is great for both bass and guitar. I've already uploaded a guitar version which you might have seen (on this channel) but I've dusted off the old P-clone and gotten my bottom end into gear for this one.
This video attempts to convey the Boost Comp's charms when used in a DI situation. I simply inserted a Waves CLA Bass plug for a little EQ over the input strip. You'll see a shot of the settings during the video. I think you'll get the picture if you can excuse my rather neanderthal bass playing approach.
The Boost Comp is a mighty pedal. It is basically two essential dynamics circuits in one - boost and compressor. 21dB of post-compressor Boost is on hand, and it can be used independently as well. The compressor is a very smooth ride and it comes with the added bonus of an active (12dB) Tone control and a very handy Presence control (2-3kHz) to put some zing into your string if needed. I can't fault this pedal but that's not unusual given that it came from Andrew Barta and team at T21NYC.
