Tech Check: testing the Project 64 1.7 emulator on an old PC
How do I download Project64 version 1.7?\nThe current "beta" version (means: unfinished, work in progress, or v1.7.x) of the Pj64 emu software is only available to people with upgraded accounts on this site. These are people who are assisting with development in various ways, including monetary donations. Please read "Other Questions" at the bottom for more details - we'll summarise here:\n\nBackground information:\nThe next version of PJ64 is going to be a big update - in fact, we're working on the biggest set of changes since we started (before v1.0). Much of the emulator is being rewritten using the experience everyone has gained. This is the same core team that developed v1.0-1.6 (zilmar, jabo and the others). When it is released publicly, it will most likely be our last release, and of course we want to make it as good as we possibly can.\n\nWhat this means to you:\nSo the bad news is that the next version of PJ64 will not be completely finished - so it won't be publicly released - for a long time. The current target (as of late 2008) is for the final release to be approximately early to mid 2010.\nThe good news though is you may not have to wait to use all the latest developments! People who upgrade their accounts have access to the beta builds of the emulator made since the last public version, plus all the ones we do in the future up until the next public version. (Please see the questions below for the full details).\n\nAfter upgrading your account:\nAll you need to do is login here on our site. After you have logged in, a new menu will appear under Downloads. You are encouraged to give feedback in the beta forums and thus invited participate in development, if you would like to.\n\nPlease Note:\nIt is not a requirement to be a member, or to have an upgraded account to use the emulator. The current public version (v1.6 which is a few years old now but still works great for most people and still supported here) is always free to use and can be downloaded and distributed (unmodified) from the public downloads section of this site.
