[Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II The Arcade] Beating Granitor Boss Receiving No Damage
Played in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Cowabunga Collection
Technique: The boss is quite slow to move but very quick to react. His attacks are lightning fast, yet he can barely keep up with you.
Your attacks hit multiple horizontal rows due to your wide swing. The boss's attacks, on the other hand, only hit a single row as they are narrow. Use this to your advantage.
To defeat the boss, stand on the same vertical row as him but slightly to one side, ensuring you can hit him without any issues. When the boss comes close enough for your attack to land, strike immediately. Getting the distance right is crucial, so orient yourself using shadows. Develop a feel for the width of your hits. As soon as your hit connects, move along the row away from the boss and hit his as soon as he gets close again. When you get a good feel for the width of your swings, you will be able to hit the boss after almost every step of his. When you reach the end of the row, jump over the boss and repeat the process. There is no need to move left or right, just focus on moving up and down.
It's all about the feeling of the width of your hits. As soon as you develop an intuitive understanding of it, this boss will be a piece of cake.
Alternatively, you can look out for the position of your character's head to the bosses' body. When your character is below the boss, hits will land when your character's head is slightly above the bosses' belly button. When you are above, the your character's head should be slightly below the bosses' head (1-2 pixels). Of course, relying on such estimations is not very effective, but it might help you to start getting the width of your hits right.
