Tempest | Steam Early Access Review
(Provided by iGavB)

SUMMARY

Tempest is an "open world" ship combat game which boasts including trading, piracy and racketeering, amongst other things. The combat in the game is quite interesting in nature and is "live action" with a nice set of graphics to finish it off. You're thrust into the world without a clue of what to do, as unfortunately the game does lack any form of tutorial or useful information (at time of recording the video). You will have to micro manage your ship, including its crew, ammo stores, damage and general cargo most of which is done at various ports you find on the map. Each crew member can provide various buffs / stats to your ship, so choose carefully! I found travelling around the map relatively boring and essentially its just used to jump from battle to battle, I would have personally preferred this to be more like a true open world whereby I could sail around, a bit like "Naval Action".

Positives:
+ Great combat system
+ Nice graphics during combat
+ The upcoming introduction of multiplayer
+ Ship customization

Negatives:
- I felt a lack of purpose or path in the game
- Lack of video settings - although it does make up for that with decent graphics anyway
- No tutorial or hits really leaves the player without a clue of what they're doing at the start
- Could get very boring very quickly

Verdict:

Definitely worth keeping an eye on as introductions of new regions, multiplayer and other game aspects may turn this into a more interesting game.

Price as of 06/03/16 - £8.99
My score: 3/5

Happy Gaming!
