Tera closed beta-Character selection and very early Berzerker gameplay
2I'd been waiting for Tera to come into beta for sometime now. I forgot how long ago I knew of this game but it seems like it has been a LONG time. Aside from this, I think the only other game I'm REALLY waiting to try a beta for is Wildstar.
Tera is an action MMORPG similar to Vindictus. Unlike VIndictus though, this game is actually more of a full blown RPG. When you play it, it looks like Rift and Aion (haven't played Aion though). Tera's world is bright and vibrant and very lush. This is definitely one game that is far from a drab palette of browns and greys. It starts off with you picking a race and then you can pick a class. A few races are gender locked but no races seem to have class restrictions. There are humans, elves, an almost vampire looking race (castanic), giants (baraka), furballs (popori), almost demons (aman) and everybody's favorite pedo targets- the elin. For classes, you have a somewhat standard fare but Tera has put a few twists on them. You have an archer class, berzerker (wears heavy armor, uses axes), lancer (wears heavy armor, tanks, uses lances and shields), mystic (light armored support class, off heals, some AOE), priest (light armored main healer), mage (light armored DPS caster), slayer (medium armored and uses 2H swords), and a warrior (light armored evasion tank that uses twin swords). I find it surprising to see a warrior that isn't using heavy armor. Apparently, warriors are a tough class to tank with. Whenever I see them in action with their twin blades, it reminds me of Lann from Vindictus very heavily.
So far, the game seems very pretty. For a Korean MMO, the translation is very good. I haven't found much engrish, poor spelling or horrible translations anywhere. I also haven't run into any gold spamming bots or botting characters. Chat is kind of bad in noob zones with a lot of focus on the Elins. This video shows the character creation and a little bit of very low level berzerker combat. The second one will show some higher level combat and also feature some mystic gameplay. I have yet to encounter anything that NEEDS a group to accomplish something and I did notice the game has an LFG system. It seems Tera might be on a good path to being a solid MMORPG.
