Terminator Resistance is Actually Awesome (on PC at least)
This is one of the best Terminator games I've ever played. The attention to detail in the game world and the familiar music really tie it to James Cameron's vision as seen in the first two movies that he directed. The graphics can be a little bland at times BUT when it looks good, it looks REALLY GOOD! Basically outdoors during the day could look better but at night the game shines and despite being an indie title can stand up to many modern last gen triple-A titles. Running on Unreal Engine 4 the game has great use of atmospheric volumetric fog and the lighting from laser blasts has an almost dirty texture as it cutting through the dark blue skies. Again, the game looks awesome at night and luckily that's where you'll be half the time. But during the day the low resolution textures can really stand out even on Epic settings here. The game was developed by literally just a few handfuls of people and considering that I think it looks good most of the time. Otherwise it runs fine on PC at least and has great music that sounds like it's straight out of the first two movies. I had to check the credits to see if Brad Fiedel did the music because it's so damn close to the movies it almost sounds like the official score at times and that's not something most Terminator games can claim. The game takes place during the future wars in LA and features several familiar locations and nods to those first two movies. Keep an eye (and ear) out for these little treats.
This game got terrible reviews (4 out of 10 from both Destructoid and IGN) when it came out in 2019 and I just can't imagine why. I'm guessing maybe the PS4 and XBox One versions had performance issues because on Steam it has mostly good user feedback. After watching a positive review on the PC version I decided to try it out myself. The game was on sale on Steam when I bought it but doesn't appear to be at the moment. Keep an eye out for it to go back on sale if you're unsure but it's not a full priced game as it normally sells for $49.99 (CAD) so would be worth regular price and is definitely worth picking up if you're a Terminator fan like myself.
