52For Mac computers using Thunderbolt and USB external SSD storage drives, it can be quite tricky to measure the absolute speed of the enclosure, SSD or drive being tested.

With a MacBook Pro you can have 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB internal storage options. Each of these SSD sizes will have different speeds and different amounts of SLC or fast cache. So testing any external SSD on any of these MacBook Pros will result in different speeds and may not truly represent the maximum speed of the external drive being tested. Basically, the MacBook Pro itself will cause some kind of bottleneck.
The same will also be true when using Mac mini and Mac Studio computers, as well as iMac computes, or any Mac due to their different internal storage SSD options.
So the way to get around the Mac itself and its storage becoming a potential bottleneck will be to use a drive faster than the Mac's internal SSD and faster than the enclosure and SSD being tested.
