Why Is My 4TB Samsung 9100 Pro External SSD Running SO SLOW With HIGH Temperatures?
48This video was meant to be very specifically a temperature stress test for my 4TB Samsung 9100 Pro PCIe Gen 5 SSD inside my new TB501 Pro Thunderbolt 5 enclosure on my M4 Max MacBook Pro.
The idea was to use my 8TB ACASIS RAID 0 SSD set to send 4TB of data in a single write session to the 4TB Samsung/ACASIS Thunderbolt 5 SSD and do this test twice. The first test was to use the enclosure in auto-fan mode, this is where the fan only turns on when need. The second test was to do the exact same 4TB data dump but with the fan in manual mode, this is where the fan is always on. Then compare the temperatures of each test.
As you can see, sending the data from a Thunderbolt RAID 0 to the Samsung SSD, meant that the data was being sent faster than the Samsung SSD could write it. Meaning that the Samsung was not only writing an amount of data that would have filled it to capacity, 4TB, but it would also mean that the Samsung would be writing this data as fast as possible. Basically, this is the most stress that any SSD can be put through in a real-world scenario.
Anyway, things didn't go to plan, but I decided to upload the video anyway in case any nerdy, geeky types, like myself, may find the second test interesting.
