Possibly your character cannot duck or drop down platforms. Also, at first the combat seemed repetitive. But in time, we find that the combat system is quite deep and you can create and customise your own combos. Collecting gear; upgrades your character or gives you new abilities. The different map sections are quite large but also kind of maze like. Also, enemies respawn when you change rooms. I found I had the most fun with the Boss Battles as they were quite complex.
