After Insomniac's 25+ years of developing hit after hit, from Spyro to Ratchet & Clank to Resistance to Spider-Man, you might be surprised to learn that Insomniac's first game was a total flop. This first title, Disruptor, was a Doom clone that made its way to the PlayStation in 1996. Although its failure nearly put Insomniac out of business, Disruptor was well received by critics - and the game contains much of the DNA that's been present in every Insomniac game since. Let's look back at the development of both this game and Insomniac's humble beginnings as a studio.
