Now that thanks to Commander Legends we have some amazing big colorless artifact creatures that are not only powerful but also of common rarity, we can put together a pauper legal deck that uses the infamous Tron Lands. Urza's Power Plant, Urza's Tower and Urza's Mine are known mostly from busted Eldrazi decks, but it's not the case in this format. We use cascade on our 8 drop Maelstrom Colossus.
Although the original Urza lands were uncommons in their first printing, the 1994 set called Antiquities, which was the first set to depict the Brothers' War, the Fifth edition reprints were of common rarity. This means that these bad boys are Pauper legal. In other words, you can use them in a Pauper deck and get as much as 7 colorless mana available on turn 3.
At first you might think that's busted and wonder why there aren't that many tron Pauper decks. The thing is, colorless mana has its limitations, and you could technically make a play that gives you 9 black mana on turn 1 in the same format if the conditions are right.
With Tron we get a stable landbase that gives you tons of mana to spend every turn, though.
The question is, what are the commons we could use this colorless mana for? And do we really need to go full colorless?
First off, lets focus on what we could get on turn 3 with Urza's Tower, Urza's Power Plant and Urza's Mine on the table, that's colorless. For seven mana we could get a Myr Enforcer. It's a solid 4/4 and the more artifacts we have on the board, the lower its casting cost. The alternatives would be Accomplished Automaton that's a 5/7 but without the affinity for artifacts but fabricate instead, or a Roving Keep that's also a 5/7 but a defender that needs a further 7 mana to become a 7/7 with trample and the ability to attack until the end of turn.
At the 8 mana mark it gets much more interesting now that Commander Legends brings us Maelstrom Colossus. Not only is the golem a 7/7, it has Cascade. In other words, we get to cast another nonland card without paying its mana cost when we cast this powerful artifact creature. Which is still possible in turn 3 with, for example, the help of a Mind Stone.
This is our go to. But since we got a powerful creature with Cascade, would it be possible to Cascade into Cascade this way? As of making this video, unfortunately not for a fully colorless deck. We do have a Boarding Party for 6 mana in red, though. 6/3 with Haste and Cascade. We also have Annoyed Altisaur for 7 mana in green. 6/5 with Reach, Trample and Cascade. If we go Gruul from here and choose both, we could also include Violent Outburst, which might not be the greatest card with Cascade, but it would still fetch us a free 2 mana artifact like Prophetic Prism or Spare Supplies for card draw.
If we go full red, it's going to become much smoother, and we could put in some Iron Myrs there that we boost with Built to Smash for early game balance in case we don't get a perfect hand and need to control the situation for a while. Roil Eruption and Fiery Cannonade are also great additions for that. Quicksand becomes very useful against all kinds of mana producing small creatures, gives us colorless mana and doesn't come into play tapped. A must have in this deck.
There's another card that would fit in well with a deck that has a lot of colorless mana available, and it's Staunch Throneguard. 2/5 with Vigilance that makes you monarch. Very versatile, nice blocker that gives you an extra card draw at end of your turn.
