"I make my potions and sell them to the locals. I count my coins and then I do it all over again. Day after day...but today was different. The old man speaks of a White Phile. I have done my research and if the legends are true this would be a most powerful item. Something a lizard such as I could use. However, as stunning as this find is, it pales in comparison to the other key revelation that this day unveiled.
My scales are blood.
Every two nights for over a year I have checked my assigned drop only to find it empty, but on this night it was not. Inside was a parchment scroll. There was no tube sealed in wax. No waterproof capsule of protection. It appeared to be a single sheet of unremarkable paper, rolled into a tube and secured with a black ribbon and yet it was untouched by the destructive effects of water. Even as I unrolled the sheet it seemed to instantly dry at my touch. I have heard stories of these types of magics among the wealthiest of Argonians but I have never seen it with my own eyes. Those of us not of rich stock must always settle for standard parchment and take our chances with the elements. Sending letters in Black Marsh is never a sure thing.
I have been waiting for this moment but blood scales? The highest mission priority is reserved for the most experienced An-Xileel operatives and yet I draw it on my first calling? What has happened? Is our cause so desperate that they would put Blood Scales in the hands of a novice? I am green as Elymus grass, how could I possibly succeed?
I will succeed one step at a time. I will follow my orders and remember my training. I will have courage and use my mind as my sharpest weapon. I must not fail.
Consume your orders. It seemed a strange parting request and I questioned whether this was perhaps a metaphor but in the end I crushed the paper into my mouth and began to slowly chew. I do not proclaim to be a connoisseur of parchment but the sheef had a distinctly bitter and sour taste that could not have been attributed to standard paper. This sheet had been soaked in something. Whatever it was had penetrated the fibers and as it slipped down my throat my mind opened as never before.
My connection to the Hist seem amplified and I beheld a vision that of the place I needed to find. The effect was brief but powerful and left me with such clarity it was as if I had been there before. I will find this place. This place is the end of the thread I must follow. I will grasp this ominous filament and my journey will begin."
