So you think that the SR-71 BlackBrird will never be introduced to WarThunder. And to that regard you are correct, the plane is actually useless in a sense. There is no place for a playable reconnaissance aircraft in the game. However there is a place for the BlackBird's sister; The YF-12!

So here is what happened... The OG BlackBird was developed around the 60s to be a high altitude superfast beast. The Aircraft has the ability to surpass Mach 3+ speeds and the capabilities to fly higher than anything else at the time! Making the plane theoretically untouchable.

With the ultimate wisdom of the US government at the time they said and I paraphrase... Hey! we have the F-106 delta supersonic Mach 2 capable interceptor, the soviets built something faster! America Number one we shall make another interceptor that is faster than whatever they will ever build! So they literally took the black bird and made it an interceptor. Like seriously! I couldn't believe it my self.

Lockheed took the OG plane and gave it a second cockpit behind the one for the pilot! They changed the nose design slightly to accompany to accompany a "radar" I put the word radar in-between hyphens because it was actually the AN/AGS 18 fire control "radar" which is literally designed to relay information to the fire-control system so guided missiles can be launched! Consider it a primitive version to make semi-active-radar-homing missiles work on the damned thing.

The Missile of choice was... Drum roll please! The Aim-47 falcon! the OG burger eating SARH missile before its transformation to the Aim-54 phoenix It feels like the phoenix started exercising and enjoyed Kale for a diet x) Ranges of the missile were about 100 miles but in WarThunder just be glad that they launch in the first place. I should also mention that the plane also never had guns!

The YF-12 was later adopted by the US air force and they ordered some of them. The plane was called the F-12B, that needed to be refined even more to accommodate longer ranges and faster speeds reaching close to Mach 4! Lockheed started working on the select number of planes but the Vietnam war affected the production of the plane logistically and later on the soviets came up with R7A intercontinental ballistic missile which shifted the threat of hey kill the bombers to bombers are useless now and so are interceptors.

Now Considering what I have just said the plane can actually added to the game as an event vehicle serving like the sea vixen but a little bit at top tier. the plane is a fantastic concept and if you are going to say that it is a paper plane and was never made! then I say that the prototypes of this beauty were actually made and tested extensively! That is my opinion on the subject and I would love to hear yours in the comments!
