THE BOSSES IN PRINCESS PEACH SHOWTIME ARE SO FUN - PPS Playthrough Episode 3
There’s a lot that I love about Princess Peach: Showtime, but I think one of the things I love most about it is the unique bosses I’ve encountered so far. Disco Wing was a funky chicken, Grape Cowboy was rootin AND tootin, and King Knight was a noble, yet ghostly enemy. This game has, so far, hit a home run with all the bosses, and today’s final boss for the second floor is no exception.
But before we get to the very cool boss, first we do the remaining two levels on the floor. The first level we do involves Peach becoming Dashing Thief Peach, but it’s okay that she’s a thief because she’s only stealing back treasures that were already stolen from the Theets. I mean, that just sounds like an excuse to me, but hey, what do I know?
The treasures of those little Theets were stolen and those responsible holed up in a very secure building, so the only chance we have is to become a thief ourselves and steal from the stealers. So, we infiltrate the secure building, and then we must navigate the surprisingly sophisticated security system in order to find the vault and break in.
Then we go from being a thief to catching them when we move on to the Detective Peach level. I was looking forward to this level since I started the game because I was so enamored with the idea of a mystery level in a game like this. I do think that this level is one of the more obvious places where the key age demographic comes into play. They couldn’t make these mysteries too hard because then that would alienate the exact group of people they were targeting the game to: children. So the mysteries are on the easy side, and that’s okay! I never subscribed to the idea that a game has to be hard to be good; there are many different ways to make a level fun without making it hard and I think this was a good example of that.
The puzzles may have been easy, but they were still charming and unique. Admittedly, this level is probably one of the least replayable levels in the game, but I think that would be true regardless of difficulty level. Once you solve the mystery the first time, it becomes very easy to breeze right through, and that would have been true even if they made the mystery much more complex. Instead, they chose to focus on making it a cute level with a lot of cute, little details.
With the mystery level done, we were finally able to face off with this floor’s boss, who, like I said, is a very unique one. Light Fang is a snake made of speakers (I think) and spotlights for eyes. If we’re caught in his beam, he has the ability to turn back time and return me to the beginning. It’s up to us to avoid his gaze and climb to the various points that activate an EMP (basically) and can destabilize him. Like I said, very unique.
So if you like mechanical snakes, patriotic gems, and/or solving easy mysteries, then this episode in my Princess Peach: Showtime playthrough is for you!
