The Broken Saber Magic in Secret of Mana (SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears!
744The Saber Magic in the SNES version of Secret of Mana does not work. Spells such as Flame Saber are supposed to add an elemental affinity to your weapon, like an enchantment of sorts. But due to bugs in the programming, no elemental properties - aside from status effects - are added to your attacks.
While weapons enchanted by spells such as Ice Saber and Stone Saber will still Frosty or Petrify your enemies, none of the Saber Magics add any elemental type damage to the weapons of your characters.
In other words, Flame Saber will still grant you the ability to inflict the Engulf status, but it doesn't add any fire damage to your attacks.
All Saber Magics grant a SLIGHT boost to your weapon damage that has nothing to do with any sort of weapon affinity.
It's similar to how the Ice Sword or the Giant Sword in Final Fantasy NES were supposed to deal ice-type damage or be extra effective against Giants respectively, but they don't actually have any special properties. Both of these games were Programmed by Nasir!
