Check out part 13 of my Indie playthrough featuring the game The Cave! This game released on the Xbox 360 on January 22nd, 2013 & is currently available to play via backwards compatibility on the Xbox One and Xbox Series family of consoles. It was developed by Double Fine & published by Sega.

In this video, the Twins visit their home & hatch a devious plan to achieve their desired freedom.

The Cave is a puzzle-platformer and adventure video game which was created by Ron Gilbert (who was the creator of the classic games Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island series). The idea behind the game is that a magical cave lures people into it and allows them to explore their darker personality traits. The cave itself is set-pieced as a sort of a museum which the player can explore, however, the deeper parts in the cave are determined based on the characters that the player decides to take along on this grand adventure. The game starts the player off outside of the cave where they are able to select 3 of the 7 characters before heading inside. There are a few sections within the Cave that are the same throughout every playthrough, however, the player also gets to experience three sections that are unique to each of the characters in the game. The goal of the game is to fully explore the cave with each of the three characters and make it out alive on the other end which may reveal something interesting about each of the character's experience during their adventure.

The 7 characters that are available to choose from are: the Monk, the Adventurer, the Hillbilly, the Scientist, the Twins, the Knight and the Time Traveler. Each character has their own backstory and an area within the cave that is specific to them. This is where the uniqueness of the game comes to life: each playthrough will feel and play slightly different based on the characters that are selected (until you run out of combinations of course) and it is most definitely worth it to play through the game at least three times to be able to experience each of the character's areas at least once. The game itself is a 2D platformer, however, it does have really awesome looking 3D visuals. The Cave is also described as a "Metroidvania-like" as more of the cave becomes accessible the more the player explores and unlocks secret passages with found items. There's also more to the characters than just exploring their world (which is a representation of their mind). Each character has a special ability that they can use to explore the cave in different ways and gain access to different areas. For example, the Adventurer can swing across gaps using her rope while the Time Traveler can teleport short distances (which also allows her to phase through objects such as a closed gate). The player also has the ability to switch between the three characters they chose on a whim and will have to do so quite often in order to proceed through the various sections of the cave and complete the multitude of puzzles in the game.

Finally, with regards to the achievements in this game: the game includes a total of 27 achievements for a total of 400 GS (this was originally an Xbox 360 Arcade game which are essentially equivalent to some of today's Indie games, however, the Arcade games were always worth less than 1000 GS). A lot of the achievements are varied and most of them are miscellaneous achievements which will see you do things that you may not normally do (which also means that quite a few of them are in fact missable). Only a few of the achievements are story-related (such as finishing each of the character's specific levels) so following a guide will be very useful during your playthroughs. Each playthrough will take you between 2 to 4 hours depending on skill level and familiarity with the levels/puzzles and it will take around 5 full playthroughs to unlock all 27 of the achievements.
