Forty years after the original film, The Color Purple, hit theaters, a new adaptation is coming. The original film was based on the award-winning 1982 novel by Alice Walker. In 2005, a musical based on the story headed to Broadway, and now this musical is making its way back to the screen. With the help of some of the minds behind the original film, including Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Steven Spielberg, leading ladies who are reprising their roles from the stage, Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks, and a star-studded cast, this movie aims to bring this tale to a new audience. With new songs, bold choices, and a goal to present the story in a modern way, this film will surely make history when it hits theaters on December 25th, just as the other iterations have in the past. We’re going behind the scenes to explore the making of this film and what we can expect.
