This is Part 2 of 3 of my mini series on the Pizza Hut Demo discs. If you missed part 1, which was on the 1998 Pizza Powered Giveaway disc, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/p4ATSjW4kEM

In 1999 Pizza Hut had a 2 disc PlayStation promotional campaign, where they gave away disc 1 for about a month, and disc 2 later on. This is disc one, which features Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Ape Escape, Final Fantasy 8, Crash Team Racing (CTR), and Cool Boarders 4. Actually, a really cool and diverse mix of games, but is it better than the first of the three Pizza Hut Demo discs? Let's find out!

Now, for the ranking of the demos, in terms of replayability, fun factor, and how well it represents the actual game (to the best of my knowledge):

1. Ape Escape: This game is extremely innovative in terms of both control/use of the controller features, as well as gameplay. The game is charming, the concept is fun. The game is just fun, it gives you quite a bit to do, and there's always time attack mode if you want more.
2. Crash Team Racing: Having the game be 1 to 4 players in the demo alone is just impressive as all hell. The racing is pretty fun, and the mechanics take a bit to master. Mastering the boosts and turns as well as the base difficulty adds quite some replay value.
3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: Yes, there's only one track, two characters, and one level to choose from (why it's number 3 and not 2), but it's just fun to mindlessly skate around. It would be nice if they added in some of the objectives (hit the score, collect S-K-A-T-E, knock down the kegs, find the gaps, get the secret tape, etc). It does get some serious points for having a two-player option though.
4. Cool Boarders 4: It's alright. Wish there was a score/trick mode in addition to the standard race. It's challenging, which adds some replay value, sure, but the core gameplay doesn't seem that deep.
5. Final Fantasy 8: Yeah, it's long, it's also pretty dull. With zero menu-ing and customization, in addition to being a straight-forward path, it's a pretty bland experience and doesn't get anyone pumped for the final release. I loved the idea of a RPG demo, too, so that was disappointing. That and it didn't really tell the player anything about the plot of the game. It did show off the game world and tone though, which is a plus. All in all, no reason to revisit it after one playthrough, no replay value.

Over all, I think the Pizza Powered Giveaway demo disc was better. Aside from that Crash 3 demo, all those games had a surprising amount of replay value. Although, if you had a second player, obviously this one would win out.
