The DARK PATTERNS In Gaming Are FINISHED
22The games industry has been implementing dark patterns to trick players for years, but now the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has cracked down on Epic Games and their flagship Fortnite title. Epic Games lost their case with the FTC and they are now being penalized around $250 million dollars and are being forced to refund tons of customers. This is all because Epic Games utilized nefarious and underhanded "dark patterns" in their Fortnite battle royale game, targeted towards children. These dark patterns pray on human psychology to manipulate them into buying more products. In this case, many children were able to easily make purchases with their parents credit cards on file, without any security measures or safeguards. Finally a major precedent has been set and this massive game developer is being fined for these awful schemes.
