The Desk of Ladyada - Stemma Sunday & VFD Vunday
This weekend we got a LOT done with new and revised stemma boards! For revisions, we got, assembled, and tested the DRV2605 and ADS1x15 QT boards - both work great. we also put together and tested our qt py lipo BFF and it works great, for our final version we added a battery monitor resistor divider. in order to test the BFF we needed a power monitor like the INA219 and realized at like 1am that we didnt have an INA219 on us, so we ended up bringing up the INA228 prototype we had and wrote a quick driver for it. Unfortunately the INA228 is totally unavailable so it won't be in the shop soon. finally, we got a shipment of some samd21e18's in - from an order over 6 months ago! so we can do some more trinkeys - one trinkey that we wanted to put together for a while was an 'ice tube trinkey' - with a single digit VFD display. First up? figure out pinouts and voltages for this cute IV-3 tube! - then we can wrap it up in a circuit board design.
The Great Search - 20 to 30V low current booster for VFD or OLED

This weekend we got to play with a VFD tube. This ancient technology uses a gas tube to light up segments. In order to activate the fluorescence, we need to provide 20 to 30V DC on the segments. Not a lot of current, maybe 1mA each, but definitely needs to be a high voltage. For lower voltages we could use a switched-cap converter. But for this we'll need a proper booster! Let's find a small, low cost, simple, and available boost converter that can give us these bias voltages from 3 or 5V DC input.
