The Disappointingly Broken Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (Steam - 2008)
3We're travelling to the year of 2008 to play Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. This video was created for journalistic purposes.
This was a game I was actually looking forward to playing. I had played the N64 version of this game at one point (didn't have a chance to review it) and was wanting to know what it was like to play other games in the series. Unfortunately, this was apparently not meant to be in this instance as I tried to play this game.
To be fair, I've tried a number of ways of troubleshooting this game. I've tried running it as administrator, various compatibility modes including XP, Vista, and 7, but that didn't work. I tried a few other interesting ideas such as reducing the resolution of my monitor to 800 x 600 and disabling full screen enhancements. I even tried inserting startup code to run in windowed mode, but the results were either the same or worse: after a long period of time, the splash screen appears and the game hangs or the game crashes entirely before reaching the splash screen. Also, I did check the integrity of the files through Steam and everything checked out nicely. No errors were found.
At this point, I think I've done enough troubleshooting that could be reasonably expected for your average gamer and am pretty much calling it quits on this one. It's entirely possible that, at some point, I might try a different version of the game, but as for the Steam game, I'm pretty much writing this one off as a broken game.
