The Diversion Legends: Episode #900 - Flick Daily (Wild Card Football, XB)
Wild Card Football is a harkening. A yen to the olden days of electronic football. To less cruft. Less to manage. Just getting onto the field to play some pickemup-bustemup. No off-season. No franchise mode. No Yo MTV Cribs to manage. It feels and plays very much like NFL Street, especially if you turn on the Wild Cards, which I do not have on here in my first season with the faux Washington Commanders.
My major detraction from the game, and you'll see more of this in later Let's Plays, is the sometimes redonk-come-from-behind surges and 3rd down conversions. 3rd and 13 and the CPU will choose a running play and rip off a huge gain on the ground after being at negative running yards for the whole game before. SMH. But I guess it's either that and be frustrated or play Madden and be frustrated. For much more money.
Regardless, the game is a fun romp and takes out a lot of the baggage that many licensed sports games come with today. It's weird that a game based on kinda big-head caricatures of their real-life counterparts feels more akin to a stripped down, straight-to-the-point football simulation than the licensed property does.
