To unlock The Division 2’s 12 different masks players must first defeat unique Hunter bosses which spawn out in the game’s open world. However, the Hunter bosses don’t just spawn on their own. Triggering each Hunter fight requires the fulfillment of certain hidden criteria.
Each Hunter boss fight is slightly different from the rest, but they all share some common traits and behaviors. For one thing, they’re all incredibly hard to take down. We advise not even attempting the fights until you’ve reached the level cap of 30, and only then if you’ve got some excellent endgame gear and/or some friends backing you up.
Another thing to be aware of is with the exception of the Crimson mask Hunter, all of the Hunter bosses will only spawn during the game’s nighttime hours. For reference, The Division 2’s nighttime period starts at 19:00 in-game time, and you can check the current time by activating the game’s Photo Mode.
Ghost and Specter Masks

As the above header infers, earning the Ghost and Specter masks requires taking down another pair of Hunters. However, these two Hunters are unique in that you don’t really “fight” them in the traditional sense. We’ll explain what we mean after walking you through how to get the Hunters to spawn.
Start by heading over to the Washington Monument Control Point in the West Potomac Park region. Once the Control Point is reclaimed, head inside and down the elevator shaft to reach the supply room. Behind the large central statue is a wall-mounted computer screen with a button you can interact with.

Pressing the button displays a map image on the screen with three specific spots highlighted. If you head to those spots you’ll find gravesites which you must use the “Salute” emote in front of. All three spots are found near the Washington Monument itself. This Imgur image (courtesy of Redditor DadRage) shows not only where the three gravesites are but also which order you need to visit them in.
As you salute each gravesite, keep an eye on your HUD in the lower right. If you salute in the right spot, you’ll notice some static interference temporarily appear on your HUD. After saluting all three gravesites return to the terminal in the Washington Monument supply room and press the button again. This time a large orange circle will flash on the screen.
If for whatever reason you fail the upcoming Hunter fights (you die, they despawn, etc.) you don’t have to repeat the entire gravesite salute process. All you have to do is return to the terminal and press the button again.
