The company that made Stink Blasters, Morrison Entertainment Group, was big into collectibles having previously created the Monster, Puppy and Kitty in my pocket toy lines.

Stink Blaster’s followed in this theme and each doll came with a unique design and backstory and along with their friends, families and rivals all lived in a place called Smellville, Florida…and they shipped with trading cards with stats that meant you could send your blaster into battle, with the owner of the loser presumably having to take a hit of the winning doll’s stank.

After international success, selling 2 million units in less than a year, the line was tested in Chicago, the Windy City, in 2003 and then rolled out nationally in 2004 after being revealed at the American International Toy Fair in New York.

It seems to have persisted far longer in international markets with Europe receiving a “Mini” set sometime around 2005.
