The Dream of Us - Starting From Scratch - The Illestrated EP (2004)
0We each decided that, in addition to doing group songs, we'd do some solo stuff as well. This is one of mine. A little backstory: In art class we would be allowed to listen to music while we worked on our projects. I remember burning a CD full of beats and this one from Sindustry came on. I was going through some relationship stuff with the girl I was dating at the time and I ended up writing this. It's funny how a song can completely take you back to the specific moments you were writing it and what was going on all around you at the time. It's kind of funny because in the grand scheme of things, it was so serious back then but now, looking back, there are certain things that strike me as just completely immature and unware. Either way, this song came from all of that. And it will always remain one of my favorites because of the value it holds.
Fun Fact: This song was my first ever experience with copyright and sampling issues because the violin in here was actually sampled from a legit violinist (it should show up in the copyright somewhere below the vid). Sindustry actually made an alternate version, which I thought about using to remake the song, but it just doesn't hold up to this. This one is the original and it holds a lot more sentimental value than remaking it all over again. Maybe someday.
In 2004, $uga Shane, B-Savage, and Exalted 1ne combined our skills to create Starting From Scratch... The Illestrated EP. Illestrated was sort of our group name. It was a combination of Illest-rated and illustrated. We would draw you a picture and show you our skills.
