Raise Your Glass - Starting From Scratch - The Illestrated EP (2004)
0It was right before the release of our album - weeks before. Someone from the Yearbook Club was announcing a presentation/slide-show for our graduating class and was taking recommendations for music and the idea started circulating of us doing a song for it. I remember one person in particular was like "You guys HAVE to do a song!". This is what came out of that. I remember the weather changing from cold to hot and I had a pretty bad cold when I recorded this, so I kept my verse short, but I wanted to encompass my time in high school from being freshman to senior and I think I did that pretty well.
I remember I had to figure out a way to extend this beat so all of us could be on it and at that time the editing software we had available wouldn't really allow you to do that easily - there were no time measurements, BPM, or bars like you would see in modern software today. So, I broke it down to the micro-second and tried to time it up the best I could so the beat would loop. You can actually notice at some points when it becomes a little offbeat. But we did what we could with what we had.
Fun Fact: The yeah yeah yeah's on Shane's vocals that were used in this song were also used in This Wedding Day and vice versa.
