The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind CXBX-Reloaded 4x Resolution, In-game FPS Counter Gameplay [4K]
18 minutes of gameplay from The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind, emulated on CXBX-Reloaded version VS2019, the latest available on their website, running at 4x native resolution 2560x1920, with vsync on, recorde in same 2560x1920@60 resolution. My thoughts:
Generally pretty playable, although with some caveats. First thing I immediately noticed, or rather heard, is some low quality compressed audio appearing here and there. I think it's probably easy fix in the sounds settings of the emu. And also, apparently there is bug with Pixel Shaders, ufortunately no beautiful waters available on this emulator :(. Secondly, there can be some problems to start a new game. Game can crash right after the intro movie. To avoid it, you should turn off experimental all threads hack. Otherwise it should run fine. And don't get scared when the emulator goes dark after starting new game, it loads another xbox executable. the one with the gameplay itself. Thirdly, as you can see I added an fps counter to the game. It's a very easy tweak. In game's files there is a config files called morrowind.ini. Just add a line "Show FPS=1" after the 'general" tab lines. Forthly(?), yes, the ingame counter is 100% correct. The emulator can't go any further than that. Even If I had a rtx 2080ti, they game wouldn't run any better. Why? Because the cxbx is an "accurate" emulator. It replicates almost perfectly the in-game logic. The logic that runs variably on the native hardware, from 20 to 60 fps. The only option that could help you gain some more fps in-game, is the "Shadows" option in the pause menu. In-doors it pretty much guarantees 60 fps.
