The Evil Within 2 [Gameplay #2] - Monster Closet
0Like Shinji Mikami's earlier games (the seminal Resident Evil 4 included), the horror elements in The Evil Within 2 are superficial and silly; rife as they are with cheap jump scares and mean-spirited torture porn that is as pointless as it is derivative. The main antagonist during the first half of the game eagerly invites comparisons to NBC's Hannibal, but completely fails to emulate the tasteful perversions of Bryan Fuller's acclaimed TV series.
There are a few neat ideas - such as the camera-augmented female monstrosity seen in the beginning of this video - but the quieter moments during which you explore the world, manage scarce resources and engage in light stealth action are generally much more enjoyable than the heavily scripted story missions.
