The Unfinshed Fish: Jim Carrey's Almost-Aquatic Adventure
The 1964 film "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" holds a special place in classic movie hearts. But in the late 90s, a remake almost took a dive with a comedic heavyweight attached: Jim Carrey.
The project aimed for a modern twist. Steve Odekerk, director of "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," was on board to write and direct, capitalizing on Carrey's brand of manic humor. However, the tide turned with the special effects.
Creating a convincing fish with Carrey's face proved trickier than expected. Test footage, though never officially released, reportedly showed a jarring combination of live-action Carrey and unconvincing CGI. Some accounts describe it as nightmare fuel for marine life enthusiasts.
The high cost of animation, along with the unsettling visuals, ultimately sunk the project. While the film never surfaced, whispers of the test footage persist online, a reminder of the perils and potential of underwater comedy.
