In this episode, Uchikoshi proves yet again that he is more than capable of mindfuckery that trumps that of VLR and 999, as much as I thought that wasn’t possible for most of this game. Thus, we conclude the series and each character gets a pretty satisfying ending (though only in the form of files).

Overall, though, the game leaves me wanting, but I think it’s trying to prove a point: circumstances are not in our control and all of our choices have the ability to change much more than we could ever comprehend, and thus trying to understand, and especially control, it all is futile. Regardless, it’s a powerful story with an ending and main villain reveal that feels fittingly incomplete in the game’s world of infinite possibilities stretching in every direction. However, part of me feels this is at least in part due to budget and time constraints.

Overall, I like the game but definitely understand why it seems to be the least favorite of the fanbase more or less, and I think I agree on that point. There’s a lot of cool plot and character stuff here which was ultimately what I was here for, but I do ultimately feel like it falls short of both VLR and 999 in a few ways. The ending also feels very anticlimactic, likely at least in part because there isn’t a big, ridiculous boss puzzle room at the end like the first two games (once again, I feel like that’s likely a dev time/money thing).

Anywho, ultimately, I feel like this game is good shit. I think VLR is my favorite, though, followed closely by 999.

Look forward to my Deep Dive (title pending) video where I summarize the games using research and fan speculation and piece together the story in its entirety in chronological order as best I can. Either way me frens, have a lovely day! I hope ya’ll’re well, and if not, that at least this video help you be well-er in some way.
