Federated Semantic Communication for the Metaverse: Architecture, Evaluation, and Research Directions
Layman Abstract :
The Metaverse is a digital world made up of many connected virtual spaces that also interact with the real world. It's like a shared online universe where people can experience things through digital versions of themselves. What makes the Metaverse special is how it links the real, physical world with virtual spaces.
This chapter looks at the important technologies needed to build the Metaverse, such as fast data processing, realistic and immersive experiences, support for many users at once, and strong privacy and security. To make the Metaverse work well, systems need to send and store huge amounts of data quickly and safely, with very little delay.
To solve these challenges, the authors propose a new system called a federated semantic communication framework. This system uses smart ways to send only the most important information, create digital twins of real-world objects, and train models without needing to share sensitive data directly (thanks to federated learning). They tested this system using well-known image datasets and found it improved data quality, speed, and accuracy.
In short, the system helps send and process data more efficiently, improving how realistic and responsive the Metaverse feels. The chapter ends by looking ahead to future improvements in the technologies that power the Metaverse.
