The Genesis sounds AMAZING! Games I had in the 90's with great soundtracks
Anyone remember the console wars? ...are they still happening?
If you're a retro gamer, you probably remember them in the 16-bit era. And you also probably appreciate both the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis (or the Sega Mega Drive) because we're adults now.
But every once in a while, I'll see someone talk about the Genesis' inferiority to the Super Nintendo, especially when it comes to sound. They'll cite bad ports of games that were better on the SNES.
...but *I* never had those games. I had the Genesis as a kid, and I didn't seek out games with great soundtracks (nor did my parents)...but I just HAPPENED to end up with an assortment of games that used the Genesis' sound chip, Yamaha's YM2612, to its fullest potential! Quite serendipitous. To this day, I have no idea how people could say the Genesis sounds bad unless they're just cherry picking bad games...kind of like why people say the 3DO sucks. But that's for another video!
The Genesis has some amazing 16 bit video game soundtracks that might get overlooked. Still, I think I had games with some of the best video game music on the console! I actually put some of these video game OSTs on in the background while I work!
(...these aren't chiptunes, right? lol)
Note: Some of the tracks (very few!) have been edited in a very minor way, mostly to skip over some build-up and get to the main part of the track. Bonus points to whomever can accurately find the tracks that have been edited in this way! (I *think* there are 3 tracks like that in total...) (and no, it doesn't count if I just started playing it somewhere that isn't the beginning of the track! lol)

\nAll music featured in the video has been credited to the original composers to the best of my ability. When multiple composers were credited for a track (or a game), equal credit was given to all composers. Of course, I wrote none of the music featured in this video.
To support the composers, buy these games on digital stores or compilations where possible! Or other games in the series! One example would be Sega Genesis and Mega Drive Classics on Steam, which includes about 6 of the games I've mentioned in this video.
You could also buy the official soundtracks where possible, or stream them wherever the artists have uploaded them! (Japanese developers and Sega are usually pretty good for this)
Remember to support the creators of your favourite games wherever possible! =D
psst please notice me Sega Lord X
