The Hard Stuff - Lexip Mouse - Freespace 2
3Welcome to Freespace 2 my friends. I'm using what is still the best space dogfighting game around to test the Lexip mouse, a mouse with two joysticks embedded into it. One small stick is on the side of the mouse, while the other is in the base of the mouse itself, meaning the shell of the mouse pivots to mimic a stick. After trying to get one of the axes of the mouse to work with the game -- and I know it worked because the mouse's software allows me to test it -- I was unable to get one of the axes to work with the game, so I had to use a mix of mouse and thumbstick to control the fighter, which was odd to say the least. I tried a few different configurations using both sticks and native mouse control, and to be honest, neither felt right. It might be because I'm so used to a stick, or because the mouse isn't meant to work with older games such as this, but regardless, unless you're a die-hard mouse and keyboard pilot, I can't see this replacing an actual joystick.
