The Hero Shooter Doomed By Its Developer? - Lawbreakers
Behind every big video game franchise in the industry, there is usually a dedicated team that puts their sweat blood, and tears into its development. Within those teams, some game developers and designers will quickly make a name for themselves for their involvement and overall interactions with the community.
Once that person moves on to a new title or even a new company, a lot of expectations for their new project will follow as well.
This is the story of a game created by an old school dev, who worked on some of the biggest games of the 90s and early 2000s. Viewed as a legend by many, and a veritable “bad boy” of the FPS genre, Cliff Bleszinski set out to take arena shooters back to its roots by any means necessary.
Though the game was praised by critics, it struggled to make a splash in a genre heavily saturated with clones and franchises, and the game’s old-school business model failed to keep up in the modern age.
This is the story of Lawbreakers.
