The House of the Dead 4 - PlayStation 3 - Intro & Arcade Gameplay First Stage & Boss [HD 720p]
With The House of the Dead 4 soon to be delisted from PlayStation 3 this is one arcade port worth grabbing now before it goes. Gameplay showcase includes the opening intro and gameplay from the first two levels with the first boss. The PlayStation 3 port includes both House of the Dead 4 and House of the Dead 4 Special arcade games. The latter was a spin off special amusement ride version, that had players in a moving seat that could spin around between two screens. Hence why it's a short game that only includes two stages and follows after the ending of HOTD 4 with G replacing James as Kate's partner.
House of the Dead 4 was a bit of a mixed bag, graphics and gameplay were just as fun and as good as previous games, but it goes on for a touch too long and the difficulty is deeply unbalanced. Unlike the original game getting a one credit clear without cheats is very tricky. In the real arcade the reload system added in a huge time delay with the shaking of the guns to reload. This took so long, that you would often take hits as you reloaded, resulting in the arcade being rather disliked and forgotten. Added to this many of the enemies were turned into bullet sponges and some of the bosses had no margin for error. Players who could 1CC the previous games with ease will find this a very hard task. Clearly this was a bad design decision to try and get more cash from uses, but most just walked away from the cabinet as a result.
This PlayStation 3 addresses the reload problem, but you still have a brutal difficulty to deal with. As you can unlock credits and freeplay mode. Even this issue falls by the way side, but HOTD 4 fails to be the masterpiece the original was. This might also explain why House of the Dead 4 Special is a much tighter game and just plays better overall and the new battle with Magician is a treat for long time fans. On the bright side it's a damn sight better than the truly awful Overkill developed by Headstrong Games. Dispite it's flaws we do recommend grabbing a copy before it gets delisted along with House of the Dead III on PlayStation 3. Both games support the normal PlayStation 3 joypad and the PlayStation Move controller.
