The House of The Dead Overkill (2009, Nintendo Wii) Gameplay Footage
Lately I’ve gotten a bit nostalgic on the games choices I’ve been playing. I decided to revisit the Wii and to ignite some nostalgic feelings of the 90’s and 00’s. Back in the 90’s when arcades were still in most every mall (and even had some freestanding ones) I would spend quarters playing mostly fighting games, beatemups, and shootemups. But there was always something special about light gun games like T2, Operation Wolf, Silent Scope, Time Crisis, and etc. One game in particular that always drew my attention was The House of The Dead and I played the hell out of that first one. And during the PS2 era I played some awesome GunCon games but The House of The Dead was a SEGA game and pretty much the only GunCon games on the PS2 were NAMCO. So as arcades died out, The House of the Dead series kinda faded away for me. Until the Wii. Now I was able to experience The House of The Dead 2 & 3 at home as well as this game, The House of The Dead Overkill. This game is awesome. The characters are over the top and the boss battles are great. The only issue I had is for some reason there was an auto-reload happening between some shots which got pretty annoying. I was pretty used to how Time Crisis and other games let you finish you clip without auto-reloads. Once getting used to that, this game shines. Overkill has that grindhouse horror film feel and is something that is pretty awesome today. There is a “Director’s Cut” PS3 release that I plan on visiting and during this time I starting searching if the PSN network had part one so I could download that and have a version I could enjoy at home. But that I realized something truly amazing. The PSN store has The House of The Dead 4 as a PSN Exclusive! I vaguely remember hearing about this years ago but kinda forgot all about it. So I downloaded it while I still could and will have a playthrough of that in the future.
