The Hunger Games tosses one script and gets a new one. Plus, Donald Sutherland joins the cast. We have your Hunger Games update right now.
Hey guys, Amanda Janner here for Clevver Movies. The Hunger Games film, based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, is generating some serious buzz. Fans are grabbing onto every bit of info they can get on the upcoming film adaptation, including the latest on the script. Director Gary Ross seems to have snubbed his screenwriter. Ross has reportedly replaced Billy Ray's draft of The Hunger Games script with one he co-wrote with author Suzanne Collins. Lionsgate announced on Twitter that "The current draft of The Hunger Games script was not written by Billy Ray. It is a collaboration between Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins." It makes sense to go with the novel's author for the script, but what about leaving Billy Ray out in the cold? When Ray was asked about his thoughts on his script being replaced, Ray replied in an email, "I don't have any." Back in April, Ross told Entertaiment Weekly he let Ray know he'd be reworking the script, saying "I told Billy when I began -- and he's a director as well and a very good one -- that I would have to put this into my own voice. And I wanted to get back as close as I could to the essence of the book and the emotional arc."
In casting news, Donald Sutherland is the newest member to join The Hunger Games lineup. Sutherland will play President Snow, a ruler who uses the violent hunger games as a way to maintain control.
