Of course I tried to do the same with standard marauders several times, but I never saw them get baited this way. Usually their shield was just impossible to penetrate and they were not dumb enough to lunge at you while you were literally machine-gunning them.
It seems to work now though. The trick is simply to stay at the magical distance, he'll keep trying to attack you and get brrrrrr to death.
Here I was actually trying to find a new way to trap the marauder on the other side of the wall now that the shield trick is gone. I got this instead...
