The Inside Story of Instagram and Mark Zuckerberg’s Quest to Rule the (Social) World
Instagram, the world’s first billion-dollar photo app, enjoyed a meteoric rise unlike any other startup. It sparked a bidding war between Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey. It changed the aesthetic habits and tastes of an entire generation, turned dogs into celebrities, created an “influencer” economy, and drew in everyone from Selena Gomez and Lionel Messi to former President Barack Obama. But Instagram’s history is far from picture-perfect. In this book talk, Bloomberg journalist and award-winning author Sarah Frier gives an unfiltered look at Instagram’s origins, its founders’ clashes with Zuckerberg after the company’s acquisition, and how Big Tech could have an outsized impact on people’s ordinary lives. This is part of our speaker’s series celebrating women’s month. Moderated by FCC Correspondent Governor Kristine Servando.
