東方邪星章 ~ The Last Comer - Extra No Bomb (Sakuya)
In which we fight Greek mythology in the Christianity game. I love subverting expectations.
(I shit you not, the star that fell into Gensokyo was actually Hades himself, and the reason he passed into fantasy is because one of his other names was Pluto, the same name as the celestial body that is no longer a planet as of 2006 [and this game was released in 2012], and that no longer being a planet means it "was pulled to the border of Illusions and Reality", since, according to this particular lore, humanity had named him after said now-dwarf planet, which acted as a symbol of faith when it was discovered... I am dead fucking serious, none of this is made up, this is all on Elfin's profile, what the hell was Milka cooking in the kitchen here.)
Trances absolutely feel a bit vital here and there, mostly for the stage, and the first midboss spell with those bullets that remind me of that fuckass boss from Kirby's Dream Land, yeah, you know exactly the one.
Almost everything on the boss is feasible without it, but that timeout makes me want to stomp on this asshole's mint fields until all there's left is my footprints. It's so confusing how some bullets get deleted sometimes, and sometimes they don't, even outside of spawncamping. Seriously, just check IZNZI's ExNN, I don't understand what's going on there: • 東方邪星章 Extra 咲夜 ノーミスノーボム
This Extra has a lack of communication at times, as indicated by my funny thumbnail joke with Sakuya. The big thing, other than that timeout spell mishap, is Elfin's 5th spell. If you shoot at any point while the maze is formed and the green cloud is encroaching, Elfin shoots out a massive spiral of bullets that basically spells certain doom for you. How are you supposed to figure this out? Oh, that's right, you don't. The game does not tell you this at all, go learn this counter-intuitive gimmick on your own by just messing around, I guess.
Other than those two things, the rest of the fight isn't that bad aside from a few of the later nons, 3rd spell, 6th spell sometimes, and 4th spell without a trance. Thankfully, this lattermost one is surprisingly consistent and dies in one wave, albeit a bit tricky with the hitboxes. In fact, I've barely ever seen anyone do it without one, I might be one of the first, lol.
Basically you just gotta take that particular lane between pink lines and push left within the two fast green lines I go left on. (That is, there's a fast green, and a slow green, as you can see.) Pushing through only one will get you crushed by the pink line. Execution can be hard, but I've gotten it down to a science. I prefer luring her to the left for this.
I think the final can be hard? But idk, Elfin's movement can be manipulated (as hinted above) so she hangs over at the side so you can shoot her down there (same for 8th spell, you saw how easy I made that). In fact, I capped the final blind. But yeah it's probably not as easy as I made it look.
Overall though, while some patterns are tricky, her spells have extremely little HP, so a lot of the time you can kinda get away with it.
As for the deaths I had, funny that they were both on the spells I complained about the most, but not for reasons that come from said complaints. The first one especially on the timeout is glaring. I've been having way too many of these hitbox tunnel vision moments lately...
(Yes, I have gotten my eyes checked. Multiple times, in fact. Not much seems to have changed for months now.)
Man, if Sakuya is this good, how good is Marisa supposed to be? Y'know, considering "the shots are strong" x4.
