The Last Kingdom: Wrath of the Norsemen Sub-Mod V.4.5 Overview!
This is my new overview of the new 4.5 version of my sub-mod of the mod for Medieval II: Total War: Kingdoms named "The Last Kingdom" and relesed by Danova and his team back in 2013, the sub-mod was at first released by me in early 2017 and was one of the first real mods that I did for the game.
The mod was last updated with a huge update in December of 2017, had a smaller fix/patch in February 2018 and then later received a smaller patch fixing stuff and improving the mod on December 6th 2018 - since then it hasn't been updated until Monday six days ago on April 4th 2022 - when I uploaded an update for the mod.
Another modder named Speeda325 on MODDB.com had made his own improvements to the mod that he sent to me in late September 2021 - these improvements included new stats/costs for most units in the game, new traits/ancillaries for certain characters allowing for example Uchtred (Uthred) to become "Lord of Bebbanburg" etc - and he did implement new recruitment for all the factions in the mod inspired by the recruitment I had done for Gwynedd - now you start with only the basic and medium troops available n Towns (and most of the medum troops are not available at first,) and then you need to build specific barracks to get later troops - sometimes you'd have to upgrade a settlement before you can get the later troops. Unlike previous versions it doesn't have everything available at the start, and it still doesn't have the boring religious-based recruitment of the main mod.
I have nerfed all the garrisons at the start of the game - now you will start with smaller garrisons and they're all more historically accurate and made up of basic and medium troops - no elites in the starting armies except the generals bodyguard. All the rebel garrisons have been nerfed and made smaller and weaker.
The new strat-models from Wrath of the Norsemen: The Baltic has been implemented here now as well for the Norwegians and the Geats/Swedes - Denmark only gets the agents such as the Shield Maiden-spy and the Berserkir-assassin - they also get an updated Lagertha-model in battle and a new model for her on the map - the model is the same on both the map and in battle - unlike in the older versions she has a helmet now, and unlike in the WotN The Baltic sub-mod "Factions United" she has a TV-show based shield-texture.
The Rebels, Spawning Vikings, and the Magyars (a horde faction) are now removed from the faction selection screen and are made unplayable as originally intended by the original developers.
The Kingdom of the Ui'Neil has 8 new units and the Kingdom of Alba have a new horse javeliner unit.
Compared to older releases this verison should be way more interesting to play as you start small and have to expand by building and recruiting. You won't get everything immediately.
Unlike Wrath of the Norsemen: The Baltic this mod has a different map focused on mostly Britain but with parts of Scandinavia and Europe playable - it has way more events and scripts and is a more finished product due to the main TLK-mod being 100% finished while the 1.5 version of WotN: The Baltic was in alpha-state.
I've improved both mods but this one was more finished at the start.
WotN: The Baltic is in one single style while this sub-mod has mixed styles as one of the goals - the main goal actually - was to make each faction different from each other so that not every Norse faction has the same units, every Saxon faction shares the same etc - I wanted them to be different from each other - so that's what they are. This might make this sub-mod less uniform than the other mod.
