The game begins right after the University but before The Lakeside Resort. We then jump back in time to events before the main game where Ellie is residing in the military school in Boston which she mentioned to Joel in Pittsburgh. Her old friend Riley makes a dramatic appearance and gives the reason why she had been gone so long. Turns out that she has joined The Fireflies. Although Ellie is suspicious, Riley persuades her to sneak out of the school. After that we return to the present where Ellie is searching for medical supplies in the shopping centre.
