Greetings, everybody.

Today we’re re-testing The Last of Us Part I, on the Ryzen 7 5700X CPU, but comparing its performance with my old Ryzen 5 3600, both paired with the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti.

My current PC specs:

-CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X (stock settings) with Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black RGB (w/2 fans, push-pull).
-Mobo: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
-GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC and WHQL driver 546.33.
-RAM: Kingston Fury Renegade RGB 32 GB (2x16 Dual Rank each), CL16 DDR4@3600 MT/s.
-Storage: PNY XLR8 CS3030 1TB NVMe (O.S.), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB.
-Case: Fractal Design Meshify S2 (Intake: 2x140 Front, 1x120 Lower Front - Exhaust: 1x140 Rear, 1x120 Top/VRM Area).
-PSU: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold.
-O.S: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (v.22H2).
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz.
-ReBAR ON (BIOS, etc.) but OFF in Driver by Default for this game.
-HAGS OFF.
-DSR uses 33% Smoothing
Frame data capture and analysis software used: https://www.capframex.com/, which also requires Rivatuner Statistics Server: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/rtss-rivatuner-statistics-server-download.html

Some timestamps:

00:00 - Intro, welcome back
01:14 - [1080p]Ultra Settings, Quality DLSS, Ryzen 5 3600 vs Ryzen 7 5700X, Side by Side Comparison, early game area w/Tess
03:35 - [1080p]Custom Settings, Quality DLSS, R5 3600 vs R7 5700X, "Spores Building" run
08:05 - [1440p DLDSR]Custom Settings, Balanced DLSS, R5 3600 vs R7 5700X, Spores Building and Slums area

As we can see in the video, this is yet another game where the R7 5700X can pull ahead, quite a bit at times, compared to the R5 3600, I’ve seen up to 20-25% depending on the area, but it’s not a consistent uplift and in some parts of the game it can be quite lower of a difference.

When the game is very GPU bound and at higher resolutions, the difference in framerates is smaller, but the consistency of said frames is superior on the 5700X, as shown by the Frametime Graph on Rivatuner.

I am aware this is the Patch 1.1.2 and when I last tested the game with the R5 3600 installed, it was the 1.1.0 Update…and that another 1.1.1 patch came in between but, looking at the Patch Notes for both of those updates (and because I tested them myself, offline, no videos for those), I’m almost sure that there were no major Performance Changes in those small updates.

All in all, this is yet another game where some decent improvement can be seen by upgrading to a CPU with more cores, and newer too, still not bad considering is one of the very few optimal choices of upgrade for an AM4 platform such as mine.

Hopefully this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you in the next one : )
