Alan Wake 2 PC - "Summoning" (Saga's ch. 7) Performance Testing | R7 5700X & RTX 3060 Ti | v.1.0.12
Greetings, everybody.
Today we’re testing some more Alan Wake II, on the Ryzen 7 5700X and Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, but in a very specific area of the game, relatively late game (Saga’s Chapter 7, also known as Return 7 - “Summoning”). Slight Spoiler warning here, I avoid showing the conclusion to the “summoning” stuff, though, but if you haven’t played much of the game yet…you’ll see two very old friendly faces, not a big deal.
That said…what are you doing here? Go and play the game already, it’s really good : )
My current PC specs:
-CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X (stock settings) with Coolermaster Hyper 212 Black RGB (w/2 fans, push-pull).
-Mobo: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
-GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Gaming OC and WHQL driver 546.17.
-RAM: Kingston Fury Renegade RGB 32 GB (2x16 Dual Rank each), CL16 DDR4@3600 MT/s.
-Storage: PNY XLR8 CS3030 1TB NVMe (O.S. and game), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB.

-PSU: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold.
-O.S: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (v.22H2).
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz.
-ReBAR ON (BIOS, etc.) but OFF in Driver by Default for this game.
-HAGS OFF.
-DSR uses 50% Smoothing
Frame data capture and analysis software used: https://www.capframex.com/, which also requires Rivatuner Statistics Server: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/rtss-rivatuner-statistics-server-download.html

This is a pretty simple video/testing I wanted to make, as I’ve seen plenty of comments online about this particular section of the game, being more demanding than others, I can understand why, but I’m feeling this applies a lot more to Consoles, especially in their Quality/Fidelity Mode, than PCs, honesty, because for me this section of the game, the actual part when we have to fight the waves of enemies…runs better compared to the immediately previous area, in the forest…those woods are the actual, most demanding part, in the game, but it varies depending on the time of day.
Also, Watery has very demanding areas too, really.
In any case, 1080 and 1440p DLDSR with unlocked frame-rates, work well with some Custom Settings, nothing too fancy, a lot of stuff on High, some on Medium, the usual, still higher than Console Settings, mostly.
I also included a 1620p DLDSR “mostly maximum settings” run, with a 30 FPS limit set via Nvidia Control Panel, as I found it works better than Rivatuner Statistics Server, for this game, when locking the frame-rates.
In any case, it was a chance for me to also check a tiny bit more the Update 1.0.12, we…actually did not get twelve updates (more like 7 Patches so far, I think), it’s just their patch numbers work like that, I guess.
You can check the Patch Notes for this, and the previous updates, here: https://www.alanwake.com/story/alan-wake-2-update-notes/
As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you next time : )
