Making a sequel to a beloved video game is one of the hardest things to do in the world; just ask Devil May Cry 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, or Duke Nukem Forever, and these are just to name a few; seriously, I could go on for days. With this in mind, when the Last of Us 2 was announced back in September 2019, I was cautiously optimistic, and you can’t blame me for feeling that way. Honestly, how do you make a sequel for a game that’s pretty much perfect? In a way, a sequel felt more like Da Vinci walking up to the painting of the Mona Lisa and drawing a handlebar mustache, a monocle, and a top hat on her.
Yet upon the game’s release in the summer of 2020, I was made to eat most, if not all, of my words. I have to keep it real here, folks. The Last of Us 2 is a pretty amazing game, probably one of the best video games of all time. Playing this game puts you on an insane roller coaster of intense emotions, just like the original, only it succeeds in amping up the emotions to another level.
With the Last of Us One remake recently released on the PS 5, a game which I have also reviewed on this channel, I believe now is a good time as any to give my review on the Last of Us 2 is it a masterpiece or is it overrated? Before we proceed any further, I just want to let you know that this review will contain lots of spoilers, as this game has already been out for more than 2 years already. With that out of the way, buckle up! Cause it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
